I love this story! I can just picture her. I had a Great Aunt Hazel in Huntington,West Virginia who was similar. Powerful women in that era(pre-feminist) fascinate me.I am definitely "with you" on this. AS I mentioned, I have been planning my US Road Trip for about five years. I have relatives and friends sprinkled over the country and Facebook has helped me reconnect with childhood, high school, college, and young adulthood friends to crop in on. Camping will be a must. So, when BCPS finally wears us out, we will gleefully hit the road for at least a year. Read Blue Highways by William Least Heat Moon. Not the same idea exactly but similar. Thanks for a great blog read.

Love this story...you know you have a place to stay in Texas on your trek across the country. Although I warn you now I am not walking a few miles to get you beer.

The Cast

  • Wife
    Formerly GF. Self-explanatory, I think.
  • S & B
Our former next-door neighbors. Their given names begin with neither S nor B, although the names that everyone calls them do begin with S and B. Go figure.
  • Wee One
Wife's daughter, who is almost sixteen years old and, like so many others of her age, going on twenty. An artist and aspiring actress who spends an inordinate amount of time getting physical therapy.
  • Daughter
My 23-year-old daughter, now a college graduate from SUNY New Paltz and working on a gig-to-gig basis in the world of theater. Currently her work can be seen at the Northern Stage Theater in White River Junction, Vermont.
